What is the RICE model template?

The RICE Model is a data-driven scoring framework that helps product teams prioritize ideas, features, and projects based on their potential impact and effort required.

It's a simple but powerful prioritization framework that evaluates ideas across four key factors:

• Reach – How many users will be affected by this initiative within a given timeframe?
• Impact – How much of a difference will this feature or product make?
• Confidence – How certain are you about your reach and impact estimates?
• Effort – How much work is required to implement this?

How to use the template

We advise following a 4-step process to get the most out of the template:

1. Define your project scope – Determine the timeframe and metrics that will define success for your initiative.
2. Score each initiative – Assign values for Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort based on past data or estimates.
3. Calculate the RICE Score – Use the formula:
   (Reach×Impact×Confidence)÷Effort
   The higher the score, the higher the priority.
4. Compare and Prioritize – Rank all initiatives and focus on the ones with the most impact for the least effort.

This structured approach ensures that your product roadmap aligns with business goals, helping you focus on high-value work that delivers results.
